NEW YORK CITY, NY - Almost everyone only thinks of walking through a haunted maze during the usual months of September, October & early November. However, one FRIGHT is kicking Valentine’s Day into a whole new direction!

Blood Manor of New York City is inviting couples and those brave enough to endure the bloodiest weekend of the year inside the winding maze that Blood Manor calls home. Promising to deliver one of the scariest experiences as well as bloody to those who take the walk on either February 10th or February 11th, Blood Manor is classifying this special weekend as The Valentine’s Day Massacre!

If your still scratching your head while wondering, “Who in the hell would do this on Valentine’s Day?” Well believe it or not, this is a new trend taking storm all over the country. Numerous haunted attractions, mostly housed indoors are opening their gates one more time for one last scare. Think about it, it offers the perfect opportunity for you and your loved one to experience something not so common on the day of love. Just imagine you and your significant other walking through haunted hallways and corridors, the adrenaline starts to pump, you both jump and just like that your in each others arms! Myself being a haunt enthusiast I personally would love to do this on Valentine’s Day with my special someone. However, during the month of October we get our fair share of scares during The Annual FrightTour. That being said, we are going to relax during this years Valentine’s Day Massacre, but who knows… In the near future you could see a small tour from us pop up if more FRIGHTS in the area follow Blood Manor.

For those wondering, as of right now, Blood Manor is the only haunted attraction open for Valentine’s Day. If you know of any additional locations open in the Northeast for V-Day please contact us.

Where Should We Scream in 2012

Posted: December 8, 2011
By: Louis White

Halloween is long gone and we are feeling the withdrawl of no screams and no scares. During the month of October, every weekend was an adventure as we traveled to some of the scariest haunted attractions in the tri-state area. Since the 2011 Tour is behind us, it is now time to plan for the 2012 Tour and we have ten months to do so!

On December 13th, we will release the first stop on our 2012 Tour to the public. We know it isn’t like an iPhone Launch or anything, but just something to keep you a little interested throughout the non-halloween months. Well in our eyes, Halloween is every day here at FrightTour!

So if you passed math class and you have calculated right, we have ten locations to release, excluding the 2011 Frighty Award Winners from 2011. Meaning we will be screaming at a total of 13 FRIGHTS in 2012. Great isn’t it?

Ok so by now your wondering where is this blog post going… Well since we have ten to announce we need ten to at least set in stone. So we are calling for your help! Please post below any places you think are worthy for a visit in 2012. Please understand that theme parks and 2011 FRIGHTS will be denied acceptance. From your help we will select a few to add to our 2012 Tour! We hope to see a big response from this, considering some of you have already blasted us on a few that we should head to next year!

If you want to help your favorite haunted attraction out, why don’t you post this blog post to their FaceBook or Twitter Page so other fans can comment as well! Just note that you must be a registered member of FrightTour, don’t worry it’s free!

We walked, we screamed and we announced the winners of the 2011 Frighty Awards. Now we announce the “Frightful Five”! The top five scariest haunted attractions or FRIGHTS, that we screamed at during this years tour! From the beginning of October through the very end we walked through a total of twenty-three haunted mazes and took a ride on five haunted hayrides while visiting a total of eight FRIGHTS. From those eight we are deeming the following five as some of the scariest FRIGHTS:

(5) Pennhurst Asylum | Glen Springs, Pennsylvania

In eastern Pennsylvania sits a haunted abandoned asylum where patients were mis-treated and lived in inhumane living conditions. Since it’s closing in 1987, Pennhurst Asylum has sat vacant until now as it opens during the month of October as Pennhurst Asylum! This fright has been deemed the top in the country by many, but what did we think!? (Read review…)

(4) Valley of Fear | Feasterville, Pennsylvania

The Valley of Fear delivered a great performance this year. The hayride through the darkest woods in Bucks County was one of the best and ZRC a zombie ridden lab took us on a wild and twisted maze of carnage blood and flesh! Read our review from our final experience this Halloween! (Read review…)

(3) Night of Terror | Mullica Hill, New Jersey

The Night of Terror in Mullica Hill, New Jersey is by far one of the scariest haunted attractions in the state, possibly in the Northeast! With six attractions including one of the scariest haunted mazes we ever walked through, you are sure to scream during this intense visit to one of our scariest haunted attractions! (Read review…)

(2) Corner of Chaos | East Windsor, New Jersey

Harvesting fear at the Corner of Chaos is the priority during this hellish time of the year. Jim and his crew have created a masterpiece with four attractions including our “Maze of the Year” the Barbaric Barnyard. Take a stroll through the darkest woods, scariest corn maze, a terrifying barn or take a ride on a classic hayride! We know you’ll scream! (Read review…)

(1) Field of Terror | East Windsor, New Jersey

Without a doubt, Field of Terror is the scariest attraction in New Jersey and possibly the Northeast! Boasting a total of four attractions that have been designed to create fear in your mind, the crews at Field of Terror have mastered the art of terror. With a 3D maze that leaves you lost to a 6 acre corn maze that keeps you wandering for 45 minutes, Field of Terror is a beast in the industry! (Read review…)

Finally at the last stop on our 2011 tour, Joe and I were ready to face what the Valley of Fear had to offer! Claiming to have one of the most scariest & original hayrides in the country we couldn’t wait! As we made our way from the car to the ticket booth, I couldn’t help but feel like we were on a camp ground. To be honest it sort of felt like Crystal Lake from the Jason movies, so I started wondering will any of the attractions pay tribute to the slasher. Even though it was the Friday before Halloween, there wasn’t that large of a crowd which was great for Joe and I considering we love when there is hardly anyone there. So after grabbing our VIP tickets we made our way to the Hayride which would take us to Scary Tales, ZRC and Shipwreck Cove.

We climbed aboard and sat facing outwards towards what Valley of Fear claimed to be the darkest woods in Bucks County. Our legs and feet were exposed to anything and everything that came to close to the wagon. What made this different then others that had the same seating arrangement was the use of the terrain. Instead of being really far from the props and sets we were face to face with them which definitely allowed for the actors and animatronic props to scare the crap out of us. Everything about this hayride made it one of the best we have ever been on. The acting in the beginning during a tribute to Jason, the few but amazing animatronic props we came in contact with, the different sections including the fist pumping CarnEvil to the undead graveyard that looked like it had been ripped from the music video Thriller, it was absolutely amazing! Aside from the brilliant cosmetic and mechanical aspects we were scared numerous times from things that popped out right in front of our faces due to the awesome seating arrangement! When it finally ended I was very upset because I wanted more of the hayride. To be honest I would have went back around if they would have let me!

After the hayride dropped us off in the Valley we were ready to take on the three walk through attractions which seemed buzzing with screams and laughter. So first up was Shipwreck Cove which took us through a twisted maze inside a Pirate Ship. From other pirate type attractions we have been on, this one was done right. With so much jute and dark spaces it seemed the most real unlike others that have so much detail it is too fabricated. What made this attraction even better was the ramps that either took you up or down which felt like you had just went up or down a deck. It wasn’t that scary because almost every single pirate we came in contact with was having a conversation with someone. They would see us and immediately take their place, um HELLO I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE NOW! That has to be the biggest pet peeve of mine. You know people are paying money to experience your attraction, so let’s ruin it by standing in the middle of the hallway while we talk about hooking up with a girl later that night! Really unprofessional! So I was done with Shipwreck Cove about half way through it and couldn’t wait to get out!

Hoping for anything to be better then what we just experienced we hit up Z.R.C. which from the outside looked like a traditional haunted house. However, on the inside it was complete chaos! This haunted attraction starts off with your body undergoing decontamination from the outside world. As you approach the first room you realize this is going to be an intense and scary attraction. The fogged out rooms, dark hallways and rattling doors really provide the real feeling that zombies have taken over the earth. This was better then any zombie movie, except for the original Night of the Living Dead in black and white but that must have come from the feeling of how real it was. You know how I sometimes complain of how there are no actors inside, well ZRC was full of so many zombies it was hard to keep track of them, they were coming from every angle. In fact one zombie got me three separate times and as I left the maze I looked back at him and said, “THANK YOU!” ZRC was one of the most intense and scariest haunted mazes I have ever walked through, job well done! The only complaint I have would be to make it a little longer…

Saving the newest attraction for last we walked through the sinister world of Scary Tales. A maze that takes all of our favorite Fairy Tales and turns them upside down! This attraction was an outdoor maze that took you through a dark trail in the woods. From the start this attraction was a theatrical masterpiece. With the beginning story to the extremely real looking Mad Hatter, Scary Tales delivered a great experience…. Well up until we came in contact with the group in front of us. This would be another pet peeve of mine is when the attendant at the front lets you in immediately after the other group. You eventually will catch up to them. So about half way through we caught up and made a run for it past them, because they were cursing and carrying on. Hey I have to review these things, I can’t have that! Well anyway after we got passed the rowdy group we found Little Red Riding Hood and some of the most scariest looking wolves I have ever seen! While I wasn’t scared that much in this attraction, I was admiring the theatrical and cosmetic look of it. I think with a few tweaks including less lighting and some things that push your buttons this could be a terrifying maze.

As we exited Scary Tales we realized that our 2011 tour had been completed. There would be no more clowns, scarecrows, zombies, monsters or serial killers coming after us until next year. Overall Valley of Fear was a great way to end the 2011 FrightTour, we really enjoyed everything they had to offer and would definitely recommend hitting them up next Halloween! We lucked out because we had screamed there the night before they were covered in a foot of snow. Valley of Fear was definitely one of the scariest places we have been to all season long!

Winding down the 2011 FrightTour with the second to last stop we screamed at Night of Terror on October 25, 2011. Surprisingly the venue is open the week of Halloween every day starting at 6 pm. So we were of course hoping it wouldn’t be as crowded like it would most likely be on Halloween Weekend but there was a decent amount of people there. As we pulled up and got our tickets I noticed the Ride of Terror which is the hayride takes you to Mayhem of Darkness, The Dreaded Cornfield Maze and The Frozen Tundra. Then you can either complete in no particular order the 3D Funhouse and Pirates Revenge. We were advised to start the night off with the hayride so of course following directions we made our way to the Ride of Terror.

After waiting in a small line to board the hayride we were finally on our way. This attraction was one of the most intense and most entertaining rides we have ever been on. With the movie like animatronics that were used so well, to the amazing sets that our wagon drove through. You couldn’t help yourself from staring in amazement. But that’s all we did, we noticed about half way through, this attraction relies solely on the big animatronic props and sets. Of course there were actors we encountered. However, it felt like the number of animatronics definitely outweighed the amount of actors which got a little repetitive. But still the hayride was a great one! Definitely one of the best that we have been on. Usually hayrides are a dime a dozen but this one in my opinion was much better then a certain one that has been praised year after year. If your a haunt enthusiast you know what I am talking about!

After the hayride we came to a stop in front of our first walk through attraction. Now this is where I realized that we should have done the hayride last because everyone who was in our hayride group walked through the Mayhem of Darkness together. Which by the way, nothing happened inside! I was waiting and waiting for something to happen because it was really dark in there, but nothing happened, it was really boring! We walked through and came out ready for the corn maze.

Once your eyes hit moonlight you find yourself in a large clearing with corn surrounding you on every side and with two entry ways in the far corner. So after getting our tickets stamped we made our way to one of the doorways and I turned around and said to Joe, “I wonder which way we have to go?” As soon as I said that a whole group of people came out of the one entrance and said, “Go back we have already been here!” I turned around looked at him and we both knew that we would have to find our way out of this on our own! The Dreaded Cornfield Maze is a masterpiece. It was not built to scare you like other haunted attractions at Night of Terror were designed to do. It was meant to scare you in a whole new way.

As you begin your walk through the maze you run into a dead end here and a dead end there. You even find yourself coming back to places you have already been and thats where the fear sets in. You start saying to yourself, “Am I going to get out of here?” You find yourself walking briskly, pulling your hair, screaming at the top of your lungs out of anger. You want to calm down but you can’t because all you can think about is getting out of here. You run into other people who have now started to panic which of course causes you to panic even more. You then pause from searching for the exit and begin taking note of what sections you have already been to where there was no exit. This is where I really started to panic. We were taking our time, covering every angle of the corn maze, looking over the top of the walls to see if it was close and we could find nothing. I really started to get nuts and almost lost Joe. Finally one of the actors inside, yes actors are inside waiting to scare you, showed us the way out. I thought, “Thank god for that, if it wasn’t for him, we would have never found our way out!”

Finally after leaving the corn maze you walk up to this huge mound of snow where a single file line of people is pushing their way through a small archway on the side. To this very moment as I sit here writing this review, I am still trying to figure out what the purpose of this attraction was. It was (A) very short, we were in, we were out. It was (B) vacant of actors, there was hardly anyone inside. And (C) I don’t see how this was about the frozen tundra at all! But it was the last attraction from our journey on the hayride so why not complete it right?

After the Frozen Tundra we still had two more attractions to experience. One would become one of the scariest 3D mazes we would ever walk through, so welcome to the 3D Funhouse! This traditional approach on a haunted 3D maze takes you through a twisted world of chaotic circus clowns who are waiting for you around every corner. The mechanics of this attraction were astounding… The slow flashing black light along with the brain draining circus music really amplified the fear as it was hard to focus. When the light flashed on and off, it provided the perfect opportunity for the clowns to move during the blackout then freeze when the light came back on, move during the blackout then freeze when the light came back on. We even entered a room where I froze in my spot and couldn’t move! It was a room full of fake moving clowns, I didn’t know which one was real or which ones were fake so I stood there as Joe pushed me through the room. I have never freaked out like that inside a maze before so I congratulate 3D Funhouse for doing so!
After the clown room I thought what else could this attraction have in store for us. But sure enough we walked through more rooms and hallways that were just as scary. I even found myself wondering, “When the hell is this going to end!? I want out!” It was the longest attraction at Night of Terror and the best! It had everything we were looking for in a haunted attraction! I would pay $30 just to walk through the 3D Funhouse!

After being scared half to death it was time for the final attraction, Pirates Revenge. I couldn’t imagine anything coming close to what we just experienced and I was right. Pirates Revenge wasn’t the best nor was it the worst. It was a simple attraction with amazing detail. The theming inside was great, I really felt like we were in a pirate ship. But aside from the great attention to detail there is just something about Pirates that doesn’t scare me. I think about Pirates of the Caribbean and Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. So unfortunately this didn’t scare me at all. By the way this was very short compared to the 3D Funhouse, we were in, we were out! So I sort of wished we saved the 3D Funhouse for last as it was the best at Night of Terror!

Overall Night of Terror was a great time. Aside from the Mayhem of Darkness, Pirates Revenge and the Frozen Tundra attractions it was definitely one of the scariest places we have ever been too! I personally think the Frozen Tundra and Mayhem of Darkness are unneeded and that the space used to house those attractions could definitely be used for expanding another attraction like the corn maze or Pirates Revenge to make them even better. If you were going to Night of Terror please hit up the 3D Funhouse and Pirates Revenge first because if you are there on a crowded night, the Dreaded Cornfield Maze, Frozen Tundra and Mayhem of Darkness will have a constant single file line moving through because the ticket booth recommends you get the hayride done first.

Posted: October 29, 2011
During the months of August & September the Northeast was plagued with heavy rain from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Areas from Central Pennsylvania to New Hampshire saw some of the worst flooding on record. As October came into view, owners of haunted attractions in the area started to fear the worst and began planning for what could have been a rained out season. However, all month each and every weekend was picture perfect bringing in huge crowds at some of the biggest haunted attractions in our area.

Finally the Halloween weekend is here and while no one is worrying about rain ruining the busiest weekend of the year, everyone is worrying about snow! Yes folks I said snow! The area has been blanketed in the white stuff. Some areas picking up over a foot of it! Meaning area attractions have closed. Some to make the list include; Corner of Chaos, Pennhurst Asylum, Field of Terror, Headless Horsemen, Valley of Fear and Night of Terror! Even though the snow dampened Halloween plans for many in the tri-state area. Tomorrow is a different story as all of the haunted attractions plan to open as well as extend hours! Please check official websites for hours of operation as well as extended hours.

While some closed, some remained open, hoping for a large turnout despite the weather. Such attractions include; Terror Behind the Walls, Fright Factory, Blood Manor and Blackout NYC. These attractions are mostly indoors, allowing them to remain open. However, from the reports of power outages and storm damage I don’t think that many people left home tonight. So if you had plans to scream tonight at one of the closed frights, plan for large crowds and long lines tomorrow night! Happy screams!
